* Most of my prints are made as needed and if you would like to have one or more, an estimated time of completion will be given before a mutually agreed upon price is established.
* Payments can be made through PayPal, by check, or if you prefer, I will except cash but only upon my personal delivery to you, your doorman or someone who can sign for it. A properly completed bill of sale containing all relevant information will accompany your purchase.
* All prints are hand made by me in a traditional darkroom, using long established archival methods. These prints were not derived from scanned negatives and are not digital prints of any kind. I do not make digital prints. The images on this website were put into the digital realm by making low resolution scans of of traditionally printed 8 X 10 inch photographs.
* All prints will be signed, titled and dated with both the date taken and the date that I printed them on the reverse side at the bottom border with indelible ink. In the case of prints framed by me, this information will be present on the backing board as well. Matboards will also be labeled with the same.
* All matboards will be acid-free 4-ply white. Either Crescent "very white" or Bainbridge "super white".
* At this time all that I am offering are Gelatin Silver Prints on high quality semi-matte paper ranging in size from 8 x 10 to 16 x 20 inches. Please note, a 16 x 20 inch piece of paper does not mean a 16 x 20" image. I normally leave a 1/2" border around this size paper and 1/4" on smaller sizes. So, a 16 x 20" print will have a maximum image size of 15 x 19" but it might also have an image size of 13 5/8 x 18 7/8" if that is the composition I like.
* The images that have been, currently are and those that will appear on this website were taken primarily with 4 x 5 inch film. While I print no larger than 20 X 24", properly focused 4 x 5" negatives would have no problem being stretched to wall sizes. However, some of my old favorites reside on 35mm film and some of these negatives are cropped when making the print, so, I don't like going to large with these, unless its an artsy shot where the appearance of grain and loss of image detail lend the mood of that particular scene.
* If you have a frame which you would like to use and its not a standard size, I will cut the mat to your specifications. For example, I will cut a mat for an 8 x 10" print smaller than 11 x 14" or up to 16 x 20" for the same price. And for a 16 x 20" print, the matboard may be cut smaller than 20 x 24" or up to 20 x 32" also at no additional cost. This because a full uncut matboard measures 32 x 40" and the 8" cutoff would only become waste.
* If you have seen the very low cost of similarly sized digital prints on many internet sites advertising "Wall Art" (whatever that is) and wondered why my 16 x 20" Gelatin Silver Prints are not also $39.95, well, darkroom printing is not the express point and click affair of saved files and inkjet printers to which most have become accustomed in recent years, it is time consuming, laborious and costly.
* The current prices for my prints, framed or unframed, will most likely not stay the same forever as the cost of large format film and Silver based paper continues to increase. Silver is no longer $5.00 an ounce. Even the cost of some darkroom chemicals have doubled in the last couple of years. Also, should the economic designers one day decide to throw us all a bone and a return to unnecessary expenditure develops amongst the many, I might like to see a bit more compensation for my efforts, cheers.
* I do not print in editions. Only a small portion of my earlier photographs are held in numbers that would approach those of a small edition anyway. Whether these were sold at gallery prices, auctioned at benefits, donated or given as gifts, they will not be offered here. In my opinion it seems a bit pretentious for an unknown photographer to offer editioned prints, who cares if I make 1 or 100. I've read that giving edition numbers to prints began when prints of original paintings and such started to become popular, also, in some types of printing, particularly when very large editions are run and where printing plates have a limited life, a low edition number will often be an indication of a neater print, it makes sense to me here, even if the artist is not well known. Optically printing photographic negatives; however, can be done indefinitely, assuming of course, the film was processed with high archival standards, as all my film is, kept properly and not physically damaged. I do realize that giving edition numbers to photographic prints has little to do with print quality and is intended to limit the number in existence thereby making them more valuable. This practice is just fine for some photographers, also an obvious interest to some dealers and collectors, but my name is not Stieglitz, nor Avedon, neither Mann, so again, who cares how many I make. By the way, a good percentage of my negatives, even many that look very promising, have never seen the light of an enlarger, light table yes but to this day remain in editions of zero.
* My prices do not include the cost of any shipping or packing materials if by chance you are not a resident of N.Y.C. and wish to blow your dough on Central Park prints. I would be more than happy to ship my prints to you and UPS ground is not expensive for such a box. I will spring for subway fare to delivery destinations within Manhattan. Shipping from New York to New York is your choice. Pickup at my front door in midtown is another choice.
* If within a week from receiving a print you should decide its not right for you I may offer an exchange or a refund minus any shipping charges or packing materials cost. Also, if a custom cut mat was made I wouldn't be able to refund that cost to you.
